Ceratitis Capitata
Crops
Citrus, Drupes, Pomes, Vines, Tropical fruits, etc.
Description
The Mediterranean fruit fly is a dipteran, 5-6mm long. It is one of the most common fruit pests worldwide.
Number of annual generations
Depending on the climate, there may up to 7-8 generations per year.
Damage
The damage is initially caused by the female biting to lay her eggs, opening an entry way for fungi and bacteria. Similarly, the larvae make galleries inside the fruit when feeding. All this produces early ripening and fruit fall with the consequent loss of harvest.
